Convenient and economical installation of ventilation dampers
Saving time and money during the installation of comfort ventilation flaps, e.g. mcr FID PRO, is possible thanks to the use of the sealing, ready-made fire-protective paint mcr Polylack Elastic.
mcr Polylack Elastic is a white ablative paint used as a paint (for making coatings) or as a filler (a connecting or gap-filling material) for fire-resistant sealing of combined installation penetrations of flammable pipes, metal pipes with insulation, single cables or cable bundles passing through walls and ceilings. An alternative, but very effective and certified application of the mcr Polylack Elastic mass is its use during dry assembly to seal the mcr FID PRO ventilation flap in walls, in accordance with DTR mcr FID PRO 24.10.14.27.
Functions of the comfort ventilation damper
Low-resistance mcr FID PRO shut-off dampers are designed for installation in comfort ventilation systems, where these systems pass through vertical and horizontal building partitions. During a fire, they allow maintaining the fire resistance of the building partition through which ventilation and air conditioning ducts are routed. They also prevent the spread of fire, smoke and fire gases to the remaining part of the building not covered by the fire.
mcr FID PRO round dampers are classified in class EI120(ve ho i«o)S and EI60(ve ho i«o)S when installed in vertical concrete partitions, made of solid bricks or aerated concrete blocks with a thickness of at least 125 mm, in lightweight walls made of plasterboard on a steel frame with a thickness of at least 125 mm and fire resistance equal to the expected resistance of the damper and concrete ceilings with a thickness of at least 150 mm.

The most important advantages of using the mcr Polylack Elastic intumescent paint to seal ventilation dampers are:

• quick and easy installation of the damper
• tightness of the damper partition
• tightness of the damper housing mounted in the building partition
• no need for formwork during installation
• possibility of adapting to irregular shapes of the opening
• possibility of combining the installation of the mcr FID PRO damper with combined transitions in the mcr Polylack Elastic system
Example of use
The use of mcr Polylack Elastic paint for the assembly of mcr FID PRO dampers was used in the P180 Domaniewska office building in Warsaw, Poland. This is a building with 15 storeys and an area of 2,100 m2 of office floor. It was designed by PRC Architekci, and the investor is the developer Skanska S.A.
As a facility built in accordance with the principles of sustainable and energy-efficient construction, it received the following certificates: WELL Gold, WELL H&S, LEED Platinum. Additionally, it was certified as a Barrier-free Facility, which means that both architectural issues and safety systems, including fire protection, meet the requirements of facilities that take into account the needs of users regardless of their level of fitness and perception.
The building used several hundred mcr FID PRO comfort ventilation dampers, so the issues of savings and speed of installation were of great importance.
“The contractor was Instal-Miod, which installed the flaps using the possibility of dry installation of the device indicated in the DWU and DTR” explains Ireneusz Rutkowski, Regional Director, Fire Ventilation Systems Division. “Installation is much simpler than installation on mortar and certainly saves the installers' workload, this is its undoubted advantage”.
mcr FID PRO dampers were installed in a similar way in the Hyatt hotel in Krakow, Poland.
